WHY I DID IT: Mateo Kovacic finally breaks silence after streaking across Stamford Bridge during Chelsea vs United EPL clash

WHY I DID IT: Mateo Kovacic finally breaks silence after streaking across Stamford Bridge during Chelsea vs United EPL clash.

Following Chelsea’s 1-1 tie with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, Mateo Kovacic broke his silence by “streaking” around the field. The midfielder was seen by Sky Sports racing towards the tunnel in just his underpants and socks after the Blues were denied their sixth victory in seven games under new manager Graham Potter.

The 28-year-old had given his matchday uniform to a Chelsea fan. He clearly had no intention of remaining outside for much longer in the chilly weather without much to protect him. Kovacic’s actions confused thousands of fans, and a video of it quickly became popular on social media. However, the Croatian international has finally spoken up following the incident.

He uploaded a cartoon self-portrait in his undies to Instagram. He captioned the picture, “I’m sorry to my wife, Izabel,”

@izakova, I’m sorry. Instagram There’s a streaker, Roy Keane said Sky Sports as the “streaking” played out, seeing the humor in it. Peter Schmeichel, a fellow commentator, joined in on the post-game fun by remarking, “That’s a wonderful sight.”

In the first half, Kovacic replaced Marc Cucurella. Graham Potter made the tactical change as United was overwhelming Chelsea in the middle of the field. If Casemiro’s equalizer in the dying seconds hadn’t occurred, the Croatian would have played a significant part in the Blues nearly earning three points.

Potter discussed whether or not he thought a 1-1 draw was a fair outcome in an interview with Sky Sports.

The Blues manager stated, “It’s disappointing because you’re 1-0 up and you can see the end.” But throughout the game, I believe a point is about right. I’m not sure if we performed well enough to win. Of course, we put ourselves in a position to win it, but overall, we put out a really valiant effort. After the first 30 minutes, we made significant progress, and in the end, we accept what we get.”
