Read Latest Gist About Chelsea News And Transfers: Bellingham to Madrid, Triple injury boost for Kante, FIFA leak

This week marks a return to action for the Blues, following an international break where several stars were jetting away with their nations. They make the short trip across London to Crystal Palace, looking to get the first win under new boss Graham Potter in his opening Premier League game.

While the head coach has had a few first-team players to work with during the break, he will also see a few return in some good form. England duo Reece James and Mason Mount both impressed in their nation’s 3-3 draw with Germany on Monday, while the Blues look to have avoided injury concerns too.

With that said, keep the blog on lock as we bring you all the latest from Stamford Bridge.

Havertz message

There was not too much riding on England’s Nations League clash with Germany on Monday night.

The Three Lions had already been relegated following defeat in Italy on Friday evening, while Germany were unable to qualify for the finals. The rivalry between the countries ensured it was never going to be a dull match, though, and it proved that way, especially for Graham Potter.

Sporting director opportunity

The international break is almost over, players are already slowly filtering back to Cobham and Graham Potter will be ramping up preparations ahead of his first Premier League match in charge of Chelsea.

The Blues boss has already seen two games postponed during his short time in the Stamford Bridge hotseat and guided Chelsea to a Champions League draw against Red Bull Salzburg in his opening game. It wasn’t the perfect start but there were already some interesting hints at what Potter could offer moving forwards.

The former Brighton coach’s time in charge has been disrupted by the international break but there are sure to be some exciting layers unveiled against Crystal Palace at the weekend. If nothing else, the 47-year-old and his coaching staff have had plenty of time to begin to assess and analyse the squad they have at their disposal.

Pulisic back

Christian Pulisic will be one of several Chelsea players to come back to Cobham with a point to prove to Graham Potter and Blues fans.

The USA international has seen his stature within the club fall steadily since Thomas Tuchel was appointed and large sections of the fanbase have turned against the 24-year-old following a string of inconsistent, poor-performances and outspoken comments.

Most recently he criticised Tuchel’s decision to leave him on the bench in the 2021 Champions League semi-final second-leg against Real Madrid in his upcoming autobiography. To say it went down badly is an understatement.

Potter to avoid transfer failure

Graham Potter will have been a happy man to see Mason Mount and Kai Havertz get on the scoresheet as England and Germany played out a thriller at Wembley. England scored three, Germany scored three and Chelsea scored three.

Reece James was also brilliant on the night but that comes as standard, now. As for the other Chelsea bodies, Ben Chilwell was once again isolated with no minutes under Gareth Southgate and Raheem Sterling demonstrated why Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be so key this season.

Mendy boost

Graham Potter’s new band is slowly coming back together and there’s some new members available for him. As Chelsea’s international stars return to Cobham for training ahead of a first league match for the new boss, there’s a big boost.

Having missed the final match of Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea tenure with injury and then matches cancelled due to events surrounding Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s death earlier this month, Edouard Mendy has been sidelined since September 3.

Nkunku interest

Some of Chelsea’s transfer targets will not change just because Thomas Tuchel is no longer at the club. Proof of this was the decision to pursue Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang despite the reservations over Tuchel’s long-term future.

As that one played out, Tuchel lasted less than 10 days after Aubameyang was signed and the Gabon striker has now been left to fight for a place under Graham Potter which is far from a formality. Potter will no doubt bring his own targets, some may come from Brighton too, he may also want to use the expansive resources now available to him at SW6.

This isn’t going to stop the so-called ‘club targets’ from being watched though. Even with the entire footballing structure at the club ripped out and currently undergoing major surgery, Todd Boehly has his team of American analysts working on transfer business with data-led methods.

Bellingham interest already hotting up

James makes final bid

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, James admitted that he is optimistic about the appointment and also discussed the poor cup final record.

Speaking on losing two finals last season, he said: “The last few years have been good, but we’ve been to finals where we’ve lost as well.

Ronaldo claim

Despite the glowing recommendation from one of football’s brightest stars, Paím failed to make the grade as a professional footballer, enduring a journeyman’s career consisting of 19 different clubs. The height of this came via a four-month spell at Luiz Felipe Scolari’s Chelsea in 2008, though the one-capped Portugal under-21 ace failed to make a first-team appearance.

Hanging up his boots following a short spell at Liga Portugal 2 side Leixões Sport Club, it wouldn’t be long before Paím hit the headlines once again. Portuguese outlet Correio da Manhã report he was arrested in 2019 on suspicion of drug trafficking.

Saka to win the Ballon d’Or with James help?

For 20 minutes England fans saw the light and the din that had been going around a packed Wembley was replaced by the belief that maybe Gareth Southgate could still be ‘The One’ after all.

He didn’t have to replace the Oracle or Master Yoda, Southgate just made things click in a way that had been missing for matches before hand. “Do or do not, there is no try” Mr Southgate. The pressure ramped up and it took until England had lost everything else to find the spark, belief and confidence that it couldn’t get much worse.
