Mason Mount shares why the Chelsea players were clapping in the dressing room after Liverpool draw

Mason Mount revealed that the Chelsea players acknowledged Cesar Azpilicueta’s awesome achievement following the fixture with Liverpool yesterday.

Speaking after the 0-0 at Anfield on Saturday, Mount publicized the fact that the captain’s massive milestone was recognised at the full-time whistle.

Azpilicueta played the final nine minutes of the match on Merseyside, a brief moment he will not forget in a hurry.

The defender racked up his 500th outing for Chelsea, the sixth-highest figure in the club’s history.

Only Ron Harris, Peter Bonetti, John Terry, Frank Lampard and John Hollins have appeared more times for the Blues than the Spanish skipper.

Whilst Graham Potter’s men rejoiced the admirable point at Liverpool, the also cheered Azpilicueta’s half century.

“It was for Azpi’s 500th appearance today. One to celebrate yeah,” said Mount when asked why the Chelsea squad were clapping in the confides of the dressing room once the fixture had concluded.

Aside from the full-back’s fantastic feat, Chelsea had several reasons to be smiling in light of the stalemate against the Reds.

Potter’s men added another point to their Premier League tally at a ground they’ve only twice once at since late 2018.

They also secured their seventh clean sheet in the league, a record only bettered by three of the four sides currently situated in the Champions League positions.

Mykhailo Mudryk made his debut for the Blues, just days after making the move from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Chelsea will hope the showdown with Liverpool can be the platform for a positive end to what’s been a largely sour season.
