Graham Potter is willing to give Denis Zakaria a shot.
Graham Potter, the Chelsea midfielder, will give him a chance.
Journalist Simon Phillips has informed GIVEMESPORT of his high hopes for the Swiss international, who has yet to play a single minute for the west London club.
The journalist believes Zakaria will get a chance under Potter and that the 25-year-old can bring something unique to the team.
Phillips told GIVEMESPORT, “Zakaria, he’s going to get his chance.” They’re just waiting for him to get his full match fitness because he didn’t have it when he arrived at Chelsea, so he hasn’t played yet.
“He’s going to get a look; he brings a lot of stuff.”
Phillips is correct in his assessment of Zakaria, he brings something “completely different.”
With an average of around 21.83 of Zakaria’s 53.65 touches per game actioned in his defensive third, it’s fair to say that the 25-year-old is much more defensive-minded than a slew of other Chelsea engine room options, including N’Golo Kante, who averages just 1.43 touches in his defensive penalty area, compared to Zakaria’s 4.08 touches per game.
His touch total of 53.65 exemplifies his playstyle well, with the Switzerland international content to perform without the ball, shining in transitional moments. His 2.19 interceptions per game are a solid total that allows him to quickly neutralize opponents’ counterattacks.
With Chelsea currently conceding an average of 1.5 goals per game in the Premier League and having conceded nine goals in their first six games, defensive solidity in the central areas is critical for creating balance.
£51k-per-week Zakaria may be the ultimate initiator for Potter’s team, content to sit deeper in possession and allow his teammates to drive forward.
