Michael Owen feels bad for Liverpool star after Chelsea draw: “Even Lionel Messi will struggle.”
Following Cody Gakpo’s lackluster performance in the goalless draw against Chelsea, Michael Owen has revealed he “feels sorry” for the new Liverpool acquisition.
Even Lionel Messi would have found it difficult for Liverpool to hold Chelsea to a scoreless draw, according to Owen.
Gakpo, 23, was acquired by Liverpool from PSV at the beginning of the month for over £40 million, although he has yet to score for the team.
Owen told Premier League Productions, “I genuinely feel bad for him because he’s joining a club that’s incredibly inconsistent and depleted of all the confidence that we’ve seen in the past.
He got a few half-chances today (against Chelsea), and he obviously tried.
“I’m sure he’ll be a terrific signing for the future, but at the moment, I would challenge even Lionel Messi to come in and look well in this team because it’s truly struggling,” the author said.
