Despite signing a new deal, the Chelsea attacker might move since Serie A powers have expressed interest.
Armando Broja of Chelsea may leave Stamford Bridge after only signing a new contract earlier this month, according to the Italian daily Calcio Mercato (via Caught Offside). The current Serie A champions AC Milan would be interested in buying Broja if he became available on the market next summer.
The Albanian striker scored six Premier League goals in 32 games for Southampton during a respectable loan season last year. Chelsea made the decision to give the academy alum a new contract that runs through 2028 in order to keep him for the 2022-2023 season.
Despite his promise, Broja has only managed one goal in six season-long replacement appearances.
Since the late-summer transfer window arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona, he has slipped down the hierarchy.
Due to AC Milan’s interest in buying Broja, Chelsea is now thinking about permanently offloading him.
There are now two strikers available for the Rossoneri: Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud. Milan will need a young forward to replace the pair because they are both far into the latter stages of their careers.
In the foreseeable future, Broja might be the perfect acquisition to take the place of either Giroud or Ibrahimovic. The Albanian international might serve as the pair’s apprentice for a few seasons before assuming the role of AC Milan’s star forward.
It is important to note that Chelsea and the Italian team were placed in the same Champions League group. The two teams will compete against one another twice. If Broja is given the chance to play in any of the two matches, Milan may have a fantastic opportunity to scout him.
But it’s still unclear how Broja will fare at Chelsea. Former manager Thomas Tuchel didn’t give the attacker a lot of chances. Graham Potter has taken over as the new tactician in place of the German.
Therefore, it is yet unknown what Potter has planned for Broja over the season. He did participate for 24 minutes in the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Red Bull Salzburg in the UEFA Champions League in the Englishman’s debut game in command of the team.
The 21-year-old forward may have a chance to play in the domestic competitions to show that he belongs with the first squad.
