Descent match for Potter? Chelsea is preparing a deal for an Italian player worth €50 million.
According to a recent print edition of Corriere dello Sport, Chelsea could pay €50 million to sign Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan the next season. It is well known that the Blues are eager to improve their team by bringing in the Dutch wide winger.
Following a few impressive performances on Inter’s right side of the midfield, the 26-year-old has had a good start to current season. Dumfries has two goals and one assist in nine games this season for the Italian club in all competitions.
In 90 minutes of Serie A football, the 35-time Netherlands international has contributed well with an average of 1.1 clearances, 1.9 shots, and 1.4 crucial passes. In the top division of Italian football, he completed 78.5% of his passes on attempt, and he has even been precise when passing the ball from the right wing (stats via whoscored).
It is not surprising that the Blues are willing to spend €50 million for Dumfries’ services given that Inter are not under any immediate need to sell him since he has a contract at San Siro through 2025.
Is Dumfries a good fit for Chelsea head coach Graham Potter?
Dumfries typically clears his lines when necessary since he recognizes danger promptly. He has the ability to open up some favorable situations for his teammates in the final third and has the strength to shoot the ball far.
The Dutch sensation is skilled enough to play either the right flank or the right back, depending on the situation. Therefore, a player with his adaptability will be a perfect fit for Chelsea in the upcoming summer.Cesar Azpilicueta, who is entering the later stages of his playing career at Stamford Bridge, can be effectively replaced by Dumfries.
In the upcoming seasons, the Inter Milan prospect has what it takes to compete with Reece James for a regular starting position at the West London club. Dumfries is at the prime of his playing career at age 26. There are definitely questions, too, about his ability to handle the physicality and intense physicality of Premier League game.
Graham Potter’s matchday team will face increased competition from Dumfries for available spots. When the transfer window reopens in January or the next summer, Chelsea should consider making a major effort to lure the Dutchman to the English capital.
