Club CEO discloses Only a few minutes after Todd Boehly fired Thomas Tuchel, he spoke with him about employing this manager.

Minutes after firing Thomas Tuchel, Brighton CEO Paul Barber said Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly approached him about hiring Graham Potter.

According to Barber on the Albion Roar podcast, Chelsea had done their study.

“We likely believed that the managers of the most of the top six clubs were set for the season. In general, we believed that consistency would prevail.

“Obviously, what we didn’t anticipate was for Chelsea’s new owners to decide that Tuchel wasn’t for them and for there to suddenly be a void there.

“Boehly called me shortly after Tuchel heard the news and inquired about Graham Potter.

“I suppose I was probably the first person outside of Chelsea to realize Tuchel had been fired, and I was definitely aware of it before it became widely known.

“When you see the name appear on the phone in that circumstance and realize that it is early in the morning, you could think, “This isn’t a good call to get early in the morning.’ It was definitely not the alarm call I was expecting.

These occurrences occur, and regrettably, there is a very small pool of elite coaches and a very narrow pool of clubs to which they are likely to apply when one of those clubs has an opening.

Then all of a sudden, you realize you have a great coach and friend and that you will be exposed.

Barber continued by saying that the only part that might have come up for Potter was the England position.
