Chelsea want defender at all costs: Will knock on the door in January with a deal ready for €50 million

Chelsea want defender at all costs: Will knock on the door in January with a deal ready for €50 million.

Chelsea spent a lot of money to acquire Marc Cucurella from Brighton, and in doing so, they identified the long-term solution for the left side of their defense.

They want to do the same for the right side since that César Azpilicueta won’t be able to compete against Reece James for very long. It would be advantageous for the Englishman, who can also play as the center defender in a three-man defense, to have competition.

Denzel Dumfries, who Chelsea had targeted during the summer transfer window, will fill that role—but only starting with the 2019–20 campaign.

According to a report from Corriere dello Sport published on Monday, the Blues “would be ready to invest €50m” on the Dutchman but would keep him at Inter through the remainder of the current season.

According to the Italian publication, Chelsea “still have Dumfries in their sights and want to get him in London at all costs.”

They are aware that Inter “does not want to sell the Dutchman in January, but during the winter window, they will still knock on the door” to attempt the same arrangement they desired in the summer, namely to pay for him now but loan him back for the remainder of the season.

In order to secure him before the World Cup, it is claimed that Chelsea was working on a transfer of this nature toward the end of the window. However, “they held back because the negotiations for Wesley Fofana’s arrival from Leicester had become particularly onerous,” with the Frenchman at the time being the priority.

Although they have dealt with each other frequently in the past (Lukaku, Casadei, etc.), the Stamford Bridge team never completely disappeared, and their connection “remains excellent.”

Chelsea wants to execute the same agreement they had in mind last summer, but with a six-month loan rather than a twelve-month one.

However, Inter is aware of how significant the World Cup may be for Dumfries since another strong performance from the player at the international level (remember the 2020 Euros?) may enable them to increase their offer for him.

Even though Thomas Tuchel is gone, Chelsea still has the Lukaku card up their sleeves because “Big Rom” wants to remain in Milan and Inter are considering keeping him.

By extending the financing agreement, they may use it “as an incentive to have Dumfries in 2023–24,” according to the Blues. One to watch out for
