According to Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg, Chelsea Football Club is considering making an official transfer offer for Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram. Despite recently confirming the arrival of Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid, Chelsea is reportedly still in search of another finisher to bolster their squad.
Thuram, 25, has been in exceptional form for Gladbach this season, scoring 13 goals and providing 4 assists in 17 appearances before the World Cup break in November. He also made a notable contribution for France during the tournament, including an assist for Kylian Mbappe’s second goal in the final.
Despite Thuram’s preference to stay with Gladbach for the remaining six months of his contract, Chelsea is said to be keen on securing his services to strengthen their forward ranks. Gladbach may be open to a cut-price fee for Thuram, whose contract expires in June, but it will be up to Chelsea to convince him that they are the right club for his long-term future.
If Thuram chooses to join Chelsea, he could provide a much-needed boost to the team’s attack and potentially displace players like Kai Havertz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. However, it is worth noting that with Chelsea’s reputation for spending big money on new talent, there is a risk that Thuram could be replaced at the end of the season.
With Chelsea currently 10 points behind the top four in the Premier League, the team will be looking for a strong performance in their upcoming match against cross-city rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage.
