Chelsea have joined the race to sign Mohammed Kudus, with interest in the Ajax atta.cker growing by the day.
According to Fichajes, Mohammed Kudus is attracting a lot of attention, with as many as four clubs interested. Chelsea has joined the hu.nt for the Ghanaian atta.cking midfielder, alongside Real Madrid and Liverpool.
Mohammed Kudus is attracting a lot of attention from top clubs all over the continent. Ajax is bracing for high-value bids after declining offers to sell the Ghanaian att.acker in the summer. Everton reportedly made a tempting £15 million bid at the time. However, the Eredivisie giants remained uninterested.
Ajax had no plans for Kudus until early October. But his numbers this season suggest he’s on his way to the top. Kudus has scored 12 goals for both club and country. The most recent strikes were against South Korea, one of which was won by Ghana. That goal has kept the Black Stars’ hopes of progressing to the next round alive.
Regardless of how far Ghana travels, Kudus has already piqued the interest of north London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham. However, the Londoners are not the only two clubs interested in him, with some of Europe’s biggest clubs keeping tabs on the Ajax attacker.
Liverpool are interested in the at.tacking midfielder as Jurgen Klopp searches for a solution to Sadio Mane’s creative void. Other clubs interested in the Ajax at.tacker include Real Madrid and Chelsea.
Chelsea is looking for the best players and may approach Kudus. At 22 years old, the Ghanaian international is a huge prospect for the future, and Todd Boehly is looking for exactly such players. According to the report, the Blues would pay above market value to secure the talent.
Chelsea have already demonstrated their financial clout in the market by paying exorbitant fees for young stars such as Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana. They are reportedly paying top dollar for French attacker Christopher Nkunku while also keeping an eye on Rafael Leao’s situation.
Overall, Chelsea’s future appears bright and exciting, and a player like Kudus would shine even brighter. Ajax will brace themselves for large offers and will undoubtedly hope that the pursuit of Kudus leads to a transfer battle between Liverpool and Real Madrid.
‘Wants some assurances’- A key reason why Chelsea star rejected new contract
Mason Mount, according to Adam Newson of Football.London, via Daniel Childs (h/t Football.London), rejected the club’s initial new contract offer because he wants positional assurances going forward.
Mount’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires in 18 months (Transfermarkt), and negotiations for a new contract have been dragging since the summer. It was recently reported that he had turned down a £200,000-per-week contract.
The England international is hesitant to sign a new contract as long as Reece James and Armando Broja did (six years each).
Mount is a versatile midfielder who can operate as a winger, attacking midfielder, or central midfielder. He appears to want to be perceived as a number eight, whose role is to influence games on both sides of the field.
He has made 21 appearances for the Blues in all competitions this season, 10 as an attacking midfielder, four as a central midfielder, and the rest as a winger or wide midfielder.
It’s an intriguing situation because Todd Boehly refuses to let the 23-year-old leave the club anytime soon (Guardian). Is manager Graham Potter in agreement with the player’s desire to be a number eight? It is yet to be seen.
To be fair, Mount has the qualities to be a great option there. He is excellent on the ball, can create opportunities, and works hard off the ball to help the team defensively. Frank Lampard, a Chelsea legend, is someone we know who eventually morphed into that position.
Mount may see him as a reincarnation of Lampard. He’d be correct in thinking so. However, it is up to the manager to guarantee that he will play there. We’d love to see that happen.
