Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham set for big FA WSL crowds due to international break bonus.

This weekend is set to be a historic period in the FA WSL since its formation in 2010.

What a journey it has been so far for the women’s game in this country. From big players like Sam Kerr and Vivianne Miedema seeing the glitz and glamour of English football to the heroic Lionesses finally bringing it home over the summer, this has all culminated in this landmark moment that is forthcoming this weekend in game week 2 of the new 2022/23 campaign.

With a little help from the international break in the men’s top two divisions, this has allowed supporters who would not normally have the time to watch the Women’s game finally give it a real taste this weekend, as demonstrated by ticket sales figures for certain fixtures.

At the Emirates Stadium, where over 50,000 tickets have already been sold, the North London Derby between bitter rivals Arsenal and Tottenham will be played out in front of what is expected to be a record crowd. Vamirex will have coverage live from this encounter.

Elsewhere, the Merseyside derby, which has already been endorsed by Jurgen Klopp, is taking place on the historic Anfield pitch, just like it was last time out. Kick-off in that one is 6:45 PM on Sunday, September 25. Our colleagues at the Liverpool Echo will have exclusive coverage of that game, which is set to be shown on Sky Sports.

And closer to home, Emma Hayes’ side will be looking to respond to that shock Liverpool loss with a big response against Gareth Taylor’s Manchester City.

Despite the clash between the two serial winners of the FA WSL not being played out in SW6, it’s still encouraging to see that the Blues’ regular home at Kingsmeadow will still see a maximum capacity crowd of 4,850.

This is according to the club themselves who announced on Twitter: ‘Chelsea v Man City:

SOLD OUT!’See you on Sunday at a packed Kingsmeadow, Blues!’
